Monster Mary's Top Ten Horror SciFi Movies

Science Fiction and Horror were meant to be mixed together.  In fact, some of my favourite all time movies are on this list.  It is one of the most popular sub genres of Horror for sure.  I have only scratched the surface of Scifi Horror with this list.  As long as there is a nice balance between the two genres, they can be some of the best that Horror has to offer.
This sub genre  also tends to have some of these cheesiest Horror has to offer such as Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Critters, and Night of the Creeps.  But, those films can fun also.  Here is a list of some of the best that Horror Scifi has to offer....

10- Hardware (1990)

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where almost everything is a radioactive wasteland.  A man brings home a Robot Skull to his girlfriend, who makes sculptures out of them.  But the Skull somehow reactivates and then  starts to reassemble itself with bits and pieces.  It then tries to kill anyone who comes near it.

9- District 9 (2009)

Johannesburg has a large Alien ship parked above it.  All the Aliens aboard were sick and malnourished so the government decided to house them in an internment camp called District 9.  the government decides it needs to relocate the aliens and appoints Wikus and his camera crew to do so.  Wikus accidentally gets sprayed with an Alien substance and slowly starts turning into an Alien.

8- They Live (1988)

Aliens have invaded earth and taken over by Human race by brain washing them through advertising.  When Nada finds a pair of special sunglasses that allow him to see the real world, he is shocked and has to destroy them somehow.  John Carpenter wrote and directed They Live and it stars "Rowdy" Roddy Piper as Nada.

7-Predator (1987)

Arnold Schwarzenegger and his military team are sent into a Guatemala Jungle on a bogus mission.  They soon realize there is something in the jungle hunting them and skinning them alive.  The creature uses thermal imaging to see at night and also can completely camouflage itself and seem invisible.  The military team have to fight for their lives.

6- Lifeforce (1985)

The crew of a Space ship find a hidden alien ship in a comet containing 3 Aliens, One woman and two men. The Crew brings the Aliens back to Earth to do some research on them, and the Aliens escape and go about turning the people of London into Vampiric Zombies.  I think the main thing people will remember about this movie is that, beautiful actress Mathilda May spends most of the film nude.

5-Blade Runner (1982)

Set in a future dystopian Los Angeles, where Robots called Replicants are hiding in the population.  "Blade Runners" are hired to hunt and destroy the Replicants before they can harm Humans.  Deckard, a Blade Runner, discovers there is a Replicant that does not even know she is a Robot.

4- Event Horizon (1997)

Event Horizon is a spaceship that was designed to open up an artificial black hole to reduce travel time in space.  Something happens to the crew of Event Horizon and a rescue ship is sent out to help.  Basically, the  ship has accidentally opened up a portal to hell by mistake.  Now, the entire ship is possessed and is trying to trick the crew into coming to the other dimension.

3- The Fly (1986)

Brundle is a brilliant and eccentric scientist that is working on creating "Telepods" that can instantly transport matter from one pod to the other.  Brundle, upon hearing some distressing news, gets into the pods to try them out before they are ready.  He is unaware that there is a common housefly in the pod with him.  Unfortunately, the computer meshes the two DNAs together turning Brundle into a giant fly.  The Fly is one of the best body horrors ever made. We watch as Brundle's human body slowly disintegrates and he morphs into a giant fly.

2- The Thing (1982)

A Norwegian Helicopter chasing a Husky lands at an American Antarctic research station and explodes killing the pilot.  The Americans want to know what happened to the Norwegians and go to investigate their camp.  They find a strange mutilated body that was burned and bring it back to their camp for dissection.  Unfortunately, the Husky contained an Alien life form that can imitate any other life form including Humans.  Making it very hard to figure out who is an Alien or a Human.  The Thing has amazing practical Effects and is quite gory as well as being incredibly suspenseful.

1- Alien (1979)

Upon investigating a distress call, the crew of the Nostromo Spaceship discover a large number of Alien eggs.  One of the eggs bursts open and a creature emerges and attaches itself to a crew member, Kane.  They bring Kane back to the Ship and try to detach the Alien but discover that it's blood is some form of Acid that can eat through the metal of the ship.  Eventually the Alien dies and falls off of Kane, but that's not the end of the story.
